Applications of Grinding Wheel Steel Balls

 

Grinding wheel steel balls is l used to make balls, rollers, and bearing rings.  Bearing steel is known as high carbon chromium steel, carbon content is about 1%, and chromium content is 0.5%-1.65%.  It is divided into higher carbon chromium bearing steel, chromium-free bear steel, carburized bearing steel, and stainless bearing steel, higher temperature bearing steel, & antimagnetic bearing steel. 



Grinding wheel steel balls have high and uniform hardness & wear resistance, with high elastic limits.  The bearing steel has severe requirements on the uniformity of chemical composition, content & distribution of non-metallic inclusions, and distribution of carbides. It is the strictest steel type in all steel production. It is also used in the manufacture of precision measurement tools, cold stamping dies, machine screws, such as stamping dies, measuring tools, and precision parts of diesel oil pumps.  It is the steel used to make balls, rollers & bearing rings. 

Heat treatment process:

There are 2 main steps in the steel heat treatment process:

pre-heat treatment

final heat treatment. 

This steel is one of the most widely used bearing steels with higher carbon chromium bearing steel with lesser alloy content & good performance.  After heat treatment, the bearing steel has higher and uniform hardness, very good wear resistance, and higher contact fatigue performance. 

To progress the hardness of the method, the main form is through heating and rapid cooling. The common cooling media are brine and oil. Saline quenched workpiece, is easy to get high hardness & smooth surface, not easy to produce a hard soft point, but easy to make the workpiece deformation thoughtful, even cracking.

Tempering reduces brittleness and removes or reduces internal stress, there is a lot of internal stress & brittleness of steel after quenching. To obtain the mechanical properties essential by the workpiece, the workpiece after quenching has higher hardness and brittleness, to meet the requirements of different performances of numerous workpieces, can be adjusted by suitable tempering with the hardness, reduce brittleness, get the obligatory toughness, plasticity. It will stabilize the size of the workpiece.
